Terms and conditions

The parties to this agreement are Motorhome ltd. reg. id. #670314-0730 (Geysir) and the person(s), whose name is written on this agreement and identified as either renter or driver of the rented car.

Obligations of the renter:

  1. The renter agrees to the provisions of this contract and receives a copy of it.
  2. The renter/driver of a motorhome shall be at least 25 years old, and have held a valid driver’s license for at least one year before the rental commences. The renter/driver of a iKamper vehicle shall be at least 20 years old, and shall have held a valid driver’s license for at least one year before the rental commences. At pickup, you will need to provide a valid driving license of each driver.
  3. If the driver’s license is not issued in Latin characters, an International Driving Permit or an official certified translation must also be presented. Drivers holding a non-European driving license are strongly advised to carry an International Driving Permit in addition to their original license. Motorhome ltd. reserves the right to decline the vehicle handover at pickup if the driver’s license requirements or the driver’s ability to operate the vehicle safely are not deemed satisfactory.
  4. The renter shall be responsible for the rented car from the time it leaves the Motorhome ltd. office until Motorhome ltd. registers the vehicle as returned in its internal system.
  5. The renter and any authorized driver are always required to observe and comply with Icelandic law and regulations, including traffic rules, vehicle operation requirements, speed limits, road and weather restrictions, environmental laws, and any instructions or warnings issued by Icelandic authorities, police, or road administration agencies.
  6. The renter shall return the vehicle in the following manner:
  1. With all accessories (including tires, tools, documents and other items) in the condition they were in when received at the start of the rental, with the exception of normal wear due to normal use. Missing or damaged accessories will be charged at reacquisition cost to the creditcard which the renter provided at the beginning of the rental.
  2. On the date and at the hour stated in the Rental Agreement , or sooner if Motorhome ltd. demands it.Any changes to the booking times must be requested and confirmed in writing. Amendments are possible up to 48 hours before the start time of the booking, subject to vehicle availability.
  3. To a Motorhome ltd. premises, unless otherwise agreed in writing. Failing to return the vehicle directly to a Motorhome ltd. venue is subject to a drop-off charge as per Motorhome ltd. current price list. The drop-off charge will be charged from the credit card which the renter provided at the beginning of the rental.
  4. The vehicle is usually supplied with a full fuel tank and must be returned with the tank refilled to the full level, unless otherwise agreed at delivery. Failure to do so will result in a charge to the credit or debit card provided at the beginning of the rental. Fuel charges will be applied according to Motorhome ltd. ’s current rates for the missing amount. On top of that, an administration fee of ISK 3,000 will be charged as well.
    The renter is fully liable for all repair and transportation costs resulting from the use of an incorrect fuel type. Also, the renter shall return the vehicle with a full propane bottle. The cost for a missing or empty propane bottle is 10,500 ISK.e) Sufficiently clean, i.e. not excessively dirty. The renter should remove all garbage from the car’s interior. The interior should be dirt-free. The exterior should not be excessively dirty, i.e. not covered in mud, tar or dirt. A car returned excessively dirty is subject to a clean-up fee according to the Motorhome ltd. current price list. The clean-up fee of 22.500 ISK will be charged from the credit card which the renter provided at the beginning of the rental.
  5. The renter shall return the motorhome vehicle with the empty toilet box. If the toilet box is returned full, a cleaning fee of 50.000 ISK will apply. Renter is responsible for emptying the toilet regardless of if he purchased "Pre-paid final cleaning" as an Extra. The renter agrees that he will be charged from the credit card which the renter provided at the beginning of the rental.
  6. All vehicles are non-smoking. Evidence of smoking and/or smell of cigarettes/marijuana/vapes/e-cigarettes in the car will result in an excess cleaning fee of 50.000 ISK. The renter agrees that the excess clean-up fee will be charged from the credit or debit card which the renter provided at the beginning of the rental.
  1. If the renter does not return the car at the agreed return time stated in this rental agreement, or does not declare his intention to extend the lease, Motorhome ltd. or the police are authorized to repossess the vehicle without further notice and at the renter’s cost. Extending the lease is subject to the consent of Motorhome ltd. Motorhome Ltd. may charge up to a full day’s rental if the vehicle is returned 1 hour or more after the rental period ends. This fee can be taken from the credit or debit card provided by the renter at the start of the rental.
  2. The vehicle must be used and operated responsibly and with proper care. Only registered renter or driver(s) as per this agreement’s first page, who also fulfil the requirements in section 2, are authorized to drive the car. If the vehicle is driven by any person who is not registered as an authorized driver, all insurance coverage shall be deemed invalid. In such cases, the renter assumes full responsibility for the vehicle, including any damage to the vehicle itself, damage caused to third parties, property, or other vehicles, and agrees to fully compensate all resulting losses. Any costs arising from such damage may be charged to the credit or debit card provided by the renter at the start of the rental.
  3. The renter is objectively liable for damages resulting from the use of the car for which no compensation will be paid by the car insurance. This includes damages to the car and/or injury to passengers on account of:
    1. Driving where prohibited by law, i.e. off beaten tracks or marked roads, in unmarked paths or tracks, on beaches or other sandy areas, or any other trackless areas.
    2. Driving in or across rivers or any kind of water course
    3. Intentional acts, gross negligence or total carelessness of the driver.
    4. Operating the car under the influence of controlled or illegal substances.
    5. Use of the car that contravenes Icelandic law and/or the provisions of this agreement.
    6. Driving on closed roads as published by the Icelandic Road Administration (www.road.is)
    7. Motorhome vehicles are not 4x4, so they are not allowed to drive on any F-roads.
    8. If there is a weather warning reporting wind speeds above 15 m/s, any damages that occur while driving the motorhome vehicle are not covered. If the renter drives despite such a weather and ignores this warning and damages the car it will result in full payment of damages regardless of the selected insurance coverage.
    9. The same applies to iKamper vehicles and their tents: damages caused by ignoring wind warnings above 15 m/s are the renter’s responsibility. The cost of damages as well as incurring overhead caused by any of the above actions, may be charged from the credit or debit card provided by the renter at the beginning of the rental.
  4. In the event of a collision or accident, the renter shall immediately notify the appropriate police authorities as well as Motorhome ltd. of the incident. The renter may not leave the scene before the police have arrived or an accident report has been filled out. The renter is obligated to report any damages to the car to Motorhome ltd. , regardless of any collision damage waivers (CDW or SCDW) assigned to the rental.11.) The distance (in kilometers) that the vehicle is driven during this rental agreement is in force is determined by reading a standard odometer supplied with the car by the manufacturer. The renter shall notify Motorhome ltd., without delay if the odometer is out of order or stops functioning during the term of the agreement
  5. The renter is responsible for any fines or charges that result from their use of the rented vehicle. This includes but is not limited to traffic violations, speeding and/or speed camera fines, parking, toll charges, and road tax charges. A handling fee 5.000 ISK is charged by Motorhome ltd. for any inquiry the company must respond to or any fine or charges. Motorhome ltd. must pay due to the renter´s/driver´s use of the rented vehicle. The renter agrees that this fee and any fines or other charges may be charged from the credit or debit card provided by the renter at the beginning of the rental.
  6. The renter/driver may not:
    1. Drive the motorhome vehicle on mountain or highland roads, or roads marked “F” on a map or a road sign, including Kjölur (road 35), Kaldidalur (road 550) and Sprengisandur (road 26) routes, unless the car is a 4-wheel drive or all wheel drive, intended and accepted for such use by Motorhome ltd. . Any renter/driver caught in breach of this article is subject to a fine of 300.000 ISK by Motorhome ltd. In addition to the fine charged by the police. The renter agrees that these fines may be charged from the credit card provided by the renter at the beginning of the rental.
    2. Drive the car where prohibited by law, i.e. off beaten tracks or marked roads, in unmarked paths or tracks, on beaches or other sandy areas, or any other trackless areas. Any renter/driver caught in breach of this article is subject to a fine of 300.000 ISK by Motorhome ltd. in addition to the fine charged by the police. The renter agrees that these fines may be charged from the credit card provided by the renter at the beginning of the rental.
    3. A fine of minimum 80.000 ISK, plus 160 ISK for each km driven on a restricted road. The renter agrees that this fine may be charged from the credit or debit card provided by the renter at the beginning of the rental.
    4. Operate the car under the influence of controlled or illegal substances. Violation of this article is subject to a fine of ISK 200.000 by Motorhome ltd. in addition to the fine charged by the police.5. Drive in or across water or rivers of any kind, without assuming all responsibility for the car. The renter will be completely liable for any damages caused by these actions, regardless of insurances purchased with the rental.
    5. Drive in banks of snow, or ice, on glaciers, or on frozen lakes. The renter will be completely liable for any damages caused by these actions, regardless of insurances purchased with the rental.
    6. Smoke in the car. Evidence of smoking in the car, such as stubs, ashes or odour, will result in a clean up fee of minimum 50.000 ISK. The renter agrees that this fee may be charged from the credit or debit card provided by the renter at the beginning of the rental.
    7. Take the car anywhere outside of Iceland without written permission from Motorhome ltd. and the car’s insurer.
    8. Allow an unregistered driver to drive the vehicle. Violation of this article is subject to a fine of ISK 50.000 by Motorhome ltd.
    9. If the vehicle’s exterior is covered in sand, the renter must not draw or write on itwith their fingers, as this can cause stains or scratches that require a deep exterior cleaning and polishing. The renter agrees that a fee of ISK 30,000 for such cleaning may be charged to the credit or debit card provided at the start of the rental.
    10. The renter is responsible for refueling the vehicle with the correct type of fuel. Any damage caused by using the wrong fuel, or by adding water, oil, or other substances into the incorrect tank, is the renter’s responsibility. The renter is also responsible for all costs associated with repairing such damage, including any additional expenses that may arise after the vehicle is returned to our workshop.
    11. The renter is responsible for the safekeeping of the vehicle keys. If the keys are lost, the renter must pay ISK 45,000 for replacement. If the renter locks the vehicle and cannot access it, the renter must pay ISK 45,000 for a new key plus transportation costs. Transportation costs are ISK 450 per km for the round trip between our office and the vehicle’s location.
    12. Motorhome Ltd. is not responsible for any personal belongings left in or transported with the vehicle, or for items left at Motorhome ltd. offices. If the renter wishes to have their belongings returned by mail, they are responsible for the shipping costs plus a service fee of ISK 5,000.
  7. The renter agrees to pay Motorhome ltd. upon request:
    1. Any and all expenses incurred by Motorhome ltd. in transporting the car back to its premises, in the event that it has been left without supervision, without regard to the condition of the vehicle, roads, or weather. 
      A deposit equivalent to the expected cost of hiring the vehicle.
      Any expenses, fines or charges that may arise from the renter’s use of the car.
    2. Road Tax
    3. Administrative fees, as well as charges for unpaid parking or tunnel tickets
  8. The renter is not authorized to have repairs done or make changes to the car or its accessories, or to put the vehicle up as any kind of collateral, without the prior, written consent of Motorhome ltd.
  9. The renter is not authorized to use the vehicle to transport passengers for payment, lend it to others, or sublease it.

 

Obligations of Motorhome ltd.

  1. Motorhome ltd. undertakes to supply a clean car at the agreed time with a full tank of fuel. If Motorhome ltd. cannot supply the car ordered at the right time, a car of similar or higher class will be offered as a replacement. If the Motorhome ltd. is unable to supply a vehicle from the reserved category on the scheduled pick-up date, it reserves the right to offer a replacement vehicle of the same or a higher category. In such cases, if a vehicle of equal or higher category is provided, the renter is not entitled to cancel the rental agreement.If a vehicle of an equal or higher category is also unavailable, the Motorhome ltd. Reserves the right to reassign the customer to a vehicle of a lower category. In such cases, the Motorhome ltd. will refund the renter the difference between the amount already paid and the rental price of the lower-category vehicle.
  2. If the renter does not receive a car within 4 hours from the agreed time on the rental agreement, the rental charges for the day will be deferred.
  3. Clean-up fees at the end of the rental will be deferred should Motorhome ltd. fail to supply a clean car.
  4. If Motorhome ltd. fails to supply a full tank of fuel, then the renter may return the car with the same fuel level as received on beginning of the rental.
  5. Motorhome ltd. reserves the right to substitute vehicles when the reserved vehicle types are not available. Motorhome ltd. cannot guarantee the brand, layout of the vehicle, or sleeping arrangements, as this depends on the availability on the day of the rental.
  6. Motorhome ltd. guarantees that the car meets the set demands, and that all official registration standards are met.
  7. If the car malfunctions due to normal wear and tear, or for other reasons beyond the renter’s control, Motorhome ltd. shall supply the renter with a comparable vehicle as soon as possible, or arrange to have repairs done without delay by a Motorhome ltd. service partner
    In a case of such malfunction, Motorhome ltd. does not pay compensation to the renter incidental costs incurred. A refund will be made for a lost rental day if the renter is deprived from using rented car for a period over 24 hours.
  8. Motorhome ltd. shall inform the renter of the content of this agreement, particularly as regards the obligations that the renter undertakes by signing it.
  9. Motorhome ltd. shall inform a foreign renter on Icelandic traffic regulations, traffic signs, and regulations banning off-road driving. Motorhome ltd. shall particularly point out the dangers stemming from animals on the roads.
  10. If Motorhome ltd. wants to limit use of the vehicle with regard to its equipment and/or road conditions, this shall be done in writing when this agreement is signed.
  11. Motorhome ltd. undertakes to maintain valid liability insurance for its business operations.
  12. Motorhome ltd. any other party takes no responsibility for items stowed in the car by the renter or
  13. Motorhome ltd. is not responsible for any damage to or loss of items stored in or transported on the vehicle by the renter or any other person.
  14. Motorhome Ltd. cannot be held responsible for any items left in the vehicle after it has been returned. If retner wish to have an item shipped back to its owner, this can be arranged in accordance with Section 14 of the rental agreement.
  15. Motorhome Ltd. prepares each vehicle to be ready for pick-up at the time specified on renters' booking voucher. In the unlikely event that the vehicle is not ready within four hours of the scheduled pick-up time, the renter will be entitled to a refund of one day’s rental.
  16. Motorhome Ltd. is responsible for providing the CABAS report if the renter requests a damage report for their insurance company. The renter must request the CABAS report within 2 days of returning the vehicle to the Motorhome ltd. office.

Insurance and Excess:

  1. The rental fee includes mandatory vehicle insurance, including liability insurance and accident insurance for the driver and the owner.
  2. Third-party liability insurance will consist of the amount stipulated by Icelandic law at any given time.
  3. In case of damage to the car, the renter is fully responsible. The renter can purchase a separate accident insurance against damages to the car, a collision damage waiver (CDW), which sets the amount which the renter is responsible for, in each case of damage, to the amount stipulated on the front of this agreement. Any renter, who has purchased CDW, can also purchase a super collision damage waiver (SCDW), which further reduces the amount the renter is responsible for, in each case of damage, to the amount stipulated on the front of this agreement. The renter agrees that the amount of excess stipulated on the front of this agreement may be charged from the credit card provided at the beginning of the rental.
  4. The renter may purchase additional accident insurance for the vehicle. These are available in three packages: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Detailed information about what is included in each package can be found on the Motorhome.is website under Insurances and Extras.
  5. This accident insurance does not cover damages that are listed below. The renter agrees that any damages not covered by the insurance of the car may be charged from the credit card provided at the beginning of the rental:
    1. Damages resulting from the driver being under the influence of controlled or illegal substances, or in any other way incapable of driving the vehicle in a safe manner.
    2. Intentional damages or damages due to gross negligence on the part of the driver.
    3. No insurance covers damages to the underside of the car, to the tires and wheels of the car, or damages caused by water when driving over rivers, pools of water or in lakes. The same applies if the renter puts fuel, water, oil or other solvents in a wrong tank on the car. The excess fees with CDW or SCDW do not extend to any of the above damages. The renter bears all risk and all cost of such damages.
    4. Damages caused by a race or test driving.
    5. Damages caused by a non-registered driver.
    6. Damages caused by war, revolution, civil unrest, or riots.
    7. Damages done by animals.
    8. Holes burned into seats, carpets, or mats.
    9. Damages affecting only wheels, tires, suspension, batteries, glass (other than windows), radios, or loss by theft of parts of the vehicle and damage resulting from this.
    10. Damages caused by driving on rough roads, e.g. to the transmission, the drive or drive shaft, and other parts in or attached to the chassis. Damages to the chassis, or any part of the car, resulting from the vehicle scraping bottom on rough roads.
      The same applies to damages occurring when stones are thrown up, striking the underside of the car when being driven. The underside of the car is not insured.
    11. Damages resulting from driving in places where driving is banned, such as paths, tracks, banks of snow, ice, unbridged rivers or streams, beaches, places only accessible at low tide, or other trackless areas. The car is not insured when crossing rivers or driving in water of any kind. River crossing must be done with extreme care.
    12. Damages to the car caused by driving on mountain roads and roads marked F on a map or a road sign, including the Kjölur (road 35), Kaldidalur (road 550) and Sprengisandur (road 26) routes. (This does not extend to 4wd and all wheel drive cars accepted by Motorhome ld. for use on mountain roads – approved cars are insured on all marked roads and tracks).
    13. Damage to the roof of the vehicle resulting from standing, sitting, climbing, mounting, or any other action that is not part of the normal use of the vehicle.
    14. Water damages to the car, its electrical system, accessories or engine.
    15. Damages caused by sand, gravel, ash, pumice, or other kind of earth material being blown onto the vehicle.
    16. Damage caused when adding the wrong fuel type in the fuel tank of the vehicle or by adding fuel, water, oil, or other solvents in the wrong tank of the vehicle.
    17. Damage to flat tires is the renter’s responsibility.
    18. No compensation will be paid for damage caused by sea spray/ seawater, if the vehicle is transported by sea.
    19. Damages that are done on the body of the vehicle when the exterior of the vehicle is covered by sand and renter made drawings on it, causing stains and scratches
    20. Damages that are done by driving the vehicle (motorhome or iKamper) when the wind is 15m/sec or higher and the weather warning is set active
    21. Damage to door components—including the frame, hinges, or other related parts—caused by strong wind gusts.
    22. Damage caused by wind hitting the doors or by objects blown onto the vehicle, including during storms, is the renter’s responsibility.
    23. Damage to the vehicle, including its electrical system, accessories, or engine, caused by driving through rivers, standing water, or lakes.
    24. Lost key of the vehicle. Further information in section 13.)
    25. Reference is made to the general conditions for accident insurance (Icelandic: kaskótrygging) as set by VIS insurance company at www.vis.is.
    26. Motorhme ltd. vehicle has been stolen during the rental period of renter
  6. Motorhome ltd. Is working with a third party for Road assistance. This will not be covered by any insurance purchased from Motorhome ltd. The renter is responsible for all costs resulting from such services.
  7. The retrieval fee for picking up the vehicle due to damage or any other issue caused by the renter’s responsibility is ISK 450 per km, calculated for the whole journey, back and forth, with a minimum charge of ISK 50,000.

General provisions:

  1. The renter confirms with his or her signature on this rental agreement and/or attached damage report that he or she has received the car and its accessories in sound condition.
  2. This rental agreement shall remain in the car during the term of the rental.
  3. The minimum rental period at Motorhome ltd. are four days.
  4. If the vehicle is returned one hour or more after the scheduled drop-off time that is stated on the booking voucher and rental aggrement, it will be charged as a full day.
  5. The renter can choose between the following options when it comes to the payment:
    1. Pay directly online via the secure payment site with Visa or Mastercard. After choosing the vehicle to rent and the rental period, along with the extras, proceed to “book thisvehicle” on the right hand side of the booking page. In payment details, choose “credit card” under payment method. If the customer has sufficient funds on his/her credit card, the transaction is processed immediately, and the customer receives confirmation of the payment. If there are insufficient funds on the credit card, the customer receives an error message.
      Cancellation policy: Fully prepaid rentals are fully refundable and editable until 48 hours before the reserved start time on the booking voucher. After that time, no refunds will be made for cancellations. Any changes to the rental are subject to availability.
      The renter must send an email confirming the cancellation of the booking.
    2. 15% of non-refundable deposit option provides an alternative for those who prefer to secure their booking with a partial payment, and rest of the balance at arrival. 
      Cancelation policy: In that case, if there is a cancelation of the booking, than the deposit is not refundable. The renter must send an email confirming the cancellation of the booking.
    3. The renter is welcome to contact customer service to proceed with the bank transfer payment method via e-mail. The bank handling fee of 1.500 ISK will be added on top of the total amount for the booking.
  6. Early returns are not refundable and are made at the renter’s own decision. In special cases, if the company is able to rent the vehicle again during the early return period, a refund may be possible, but this is at the company’s discretion. In a case of a no-show, no refund will be made.
  7. Motorhome ltd. is authorized to repossess the car at their discretion and without notice if the car has been illegally parked or used in a manner that does not conform with the conditions of this rental agreement or law and regulations, or if the car appears to be abandoned. The renter will pay for cost arising from such measures. The renter agrees that this fee may be charged from the credit/debit card provided by the renter at the beginning of the rental.
  8. Smoking is prohibited in all Motorhome ltd. cars. Evidence of smoking in the car will result in a cleaning fee of minimum 50.000 ISK.
  9. Pick up and/or return outside of working hours is only possible if availability is confirmed and approved by Motorhome Ltd.
    1. The pick-up fee is ISK 15,000. The renter will receive instructions on how to pick up the vehicle before arrival.
    2. The return fee is ISK 15,000. In addition, the renter must purchase the Platinum Insurance package for the duration of the booking as a security measure. Motorhome Ltd. will provide further instructions for the return process.
  10. Additions and amendments to the conditions and provisions of this rental agreement shall be made in writing and confirmed in writing by a Motorhome ltd. representative.48.) The renter is responsible for paying Road Tax. As of January 1, 2026, the Icelandic government has implemented a compulsory road tax that applies to all vehicles, including rental vehicles. This tax is set by the Icelandic authorities and is not a fee determined by Motorhome ltd. Rental companies are legally required to collect this charge on behalf of the government. The road tax is compulsory and non-refundable.
    1. Any adjustments to the road tax rate or structure mandated by law will be applied as required.
    2. The daily road tax fee 12 EUR  applies to all rentals starting from January 1, 2026, regardless of the booking date.
    3. The fee is calculated per rental day, including both the first and last day of the rental period.
  11. By providing his/her credit card details to Motorhome ltd., the renter agrees with his/her signature on this rental agreement that Motorhome ltd. is authorized to charge the card for the rental fee and any other fees, charges or fines that may arise from this rental agreement.
    This includes:
    1. Missing or damaged accessories.
    2. Drop-off charges.
    3. Fuel charges.
    4. Propane bottle charges.
    5. Clean-up and/or smoking charges.
    6. Late return and related costs.
    7. Damages to the car by others than renter/driver.
    8. Damages to the car by the renter/driver.
    9. Fines and handling fees.
    10. Fines for driving where prohibited by law.
    11. Fines for driving standard cars on mountain roads.
    12. Excess for CDW or SCDW.
    13. Damages not covered by the car’s insurance.
    14. Non-paid parking, tunnel tickets, etc. Motorhome ltd. reserves the right to debit the credit or debit card for the rental fee and any additional fees, charges, or penalties arising under this Rental Agreement for up to six months following the end of the rental period.
  12. This rental agreement, and any agreements, made on the basis of this agreement and its provisions, fall under the auspices of Icelandic law. This includes any claims for compensation that might be made. This applies both to the basis for and the calculation of compensation. The same applies to claims for damages based on liability outside this agreement. If legal disputes arise concerning this lease agreement, they will be heard before Geysir’s legal venue, the district court of Reykjanes, Iceland.
  13. Any disputes between the parties to this rental agreement can be submitted to the active Arbitration committee of the Icelandic Consumers Association and the Icelandic Travel Industry Association. TM insurance company
  14. Procedure in Case of an Incident:
    If an accident occurs, or in the event of theft, fire damage, or a collision with wildlife, the renter must contact the police immediately. The Motorhome ltd. must also be notified as soon as possible using the contact details provided in the rental agreement, and no later than the next business day after the incident. The renter must not admit liability or agree to any claims made by third parties.
    Regardless of the extent of the damage, including minor incidents, the renter is required to submit a comprehensive written incident report to the Rental Company Motorhome ltd., accompanied by a diagram of the situation. Should the renter fail to provide this documentation and the insurance provider subsequently decline coverage, the renter will be responsible for covering the full cost of the damage. The incident report must clearly state the names and addresses of all involved parties, include contact details of any witnesses, and list the registration numbers of all vehicles involved. The report must be completed, signed, and delivered to the Motorhome ltd. at the latest upon return of the vehicle.

Privacy & Use of Personal Information:

The seller is fully informed by the buyer of all the information that the buyer issues in connection with the transaction. information from the buyer will not be disclosed to any third party under any circumstances.
